Mason P. Ashe wears many hats. An experienced sports and entertainment attorney, talent manager, brand strategist, and educator, Mr. Ashe brings over 25 years of experience in the legal and business arenas to best serve his clients, community, and students. As Founder and CEO of Ashe Sports & Entertainment Consulting, Inc., Ashe has structured and negotiated deals related to athlete and entertainer engagement, executive compensation, digital content licensing, and many other agreements associated with the scouting, marketing, management, employment, and commercialization of talent in the sports and entertainment industries globally. Ashe earned a BA degree in Psychology from Hamilton College, and a Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.
Ashe previously worked as an associate and then partner at a national law firm, and also served as Vice President in Team Sports at International Management Group (IMG), the world’s largest global sports marketing and management agency. Ashe has served as the lead contract negotiator, legal advisor, and brand strategist for professional athletes, teams, senior league executives, coaches, financial advisors, entertainers, on-air personalities, celebrity chefs, news anchors, senior leadership at publicly traded and privately owned businesses, film producers, TV and web-based reality show producers, and a few pioneers of online social networking and other New Media platforms.
In addition to his other responsibilities, Ashe teaches Sports Law as a member of the adjunct faculty at The Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Howard University School of Law. He has been listed twice on Sports Illustrated magazine’s “101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports” list, received the 2015 Sports Lawyer of the Year Award from the National Bar Association, and selected for a 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award in Business from the SUNY at Buffalo Law Alumni Association.
Mason P. Ashe will join the Wake Forest Journal of Business & Intellectual Property Law for our annual spring symposium on February 28, 2020. Ashe will be speaking from 2:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. on the Institutional Roundtable panel with Mr. Marc Edelman, Dr. Todd Hairston, and moderator Professor Tim Davis.
